Agência FAPESP – To gather and analyze scientific knowledge on soil health and highlight its practical and strategic implications for addressing climate change, researchers from 58 Brazilian institutions participated in producing and launching the digital book Soil Health in Tropical Ecosystems: The Basis for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation.
The work is the result of an initiative by the Brazilian Soil Health Partnership, the Center for Carbon Research in Tropical Agriculture (CCARBON), and the Luiz de Queiroz Agricultural Studies Foundation (FEALQ). CCARBON is a FAPESP Research, Innovation, and Dissemination Center (RIDC) based at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture at the University of São Paulo (ESALQ-USP) in Piracicaba.
The publication received support from FAPESP (projects 14/22262-0 and 21/05129-8) and has established strategic partnerships with the private sector. “Our central purpose is to develop scientific and technological solutions that promote sustainable, low-carbon tropical agriculture, capable of mitigating the effects of climate change and, at the same time, contributing to improving the quality of life of society,” highlights the opening message of the book.
The work also seeks to establish itself as an international reference, leading advances in science, innovation, and training human resources in sustainable agricultural systems.
Its 29 chapters cover topics including the use of biochar in agriculture, soil health management in grazing systems and livestock production in the Atlantic Forest, public policies that promote a global soil health agenda, soil health in cotton cultivation, and the relationship between soil biology and carbon processing in agriculture.
The e-book is available for free download from the FEALQ website: fealq.org.br/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/e-book_SAUDE-DO-SOLO-EM-ECOSSISTEMAS-TROPICAIS_DIGITAL.pdf.
